Protecting the Rainforest

As part of our commitment to sustainability, and with the help of our customers, Think Energy has protected over 5 million trees in the rainforest that were threatened by deforestation.

Deforestation is a significant contributor of climate change-causing greenhouse gases. Studies indicate that tropical deforestation accounts for up to 15% of net global carbon emissions each year.  That’s about the same as every car, truck, bus, plane, ship and train on the planet combined.  But stopping deforestation doesn’t just prevent emissions. Studies have shown that halting tropical deforestation and allowing for regrowth could mitigate up to 50% of net global carbon emissions through 2050.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Think Energy offer 100% clean electricity?

Outside of Connecticut, Think Energy offsets 100% consumer electricity consumption with renewable energy certificates produced by wind, solar and hydro resources. Currently, Think Energy’s products in Connecticut continue to meet Connecticut’s renewable portfolio standard, but its products do not meet certain regulatory requirements permitting them to be marketed as “clean,” or “renewable,” or “green” under Connecticut’s regulatory framework.

What is energy deregulation?

Energy deregulation is a system that allows consumers to choose their energy supplier. This prevents energy monopolies and gives consumers the freedom to choose from multiple energy providers based on rates that suit their needs at competitive prices. Think Energy is a leading player in this industry.

While your supplier may differ, your local utility will continue to be responsible for handling billing and maintenance, reading your meter, responding to emergencies, and delivering your electricity/natural gas through the same infrastructure/pipelines that you have always used. Think Energy works collectively with your local utility to help deliver energy for your home/business.

Who do I contact for energy-related emergencies, or if my power goes out?

If you are experiencing issues with your electricity supply, reach out to your local utility immediately. Your local utility or distribution company is still responsible for maintaining the reliability of the transmission and distribution system facilitating your home/business.

Where does my clean electricity come from?

For our 100% clean electricity product, Think Energy purchase renewable energy certificates produced by wind, solar and hydro resources.

What is a Renewable Energy Certificate?

A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a market-based instrument that represents proof that 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from a renewable energy source and delivered to the grid. It can be bought, sold, and traded separately from physical electricity, allowing consumers to purchase renewable energy without having to directly consume it from their own energy supply. This mechanism is used to incentivize investment in renewable energy and promote the development of clean energy sources.

Which US markets is Think Energy licensed to operate in?

How can I transfer my Think Energy service to a new address?

Will I have to pay a fee to transfer my service to Think Energy?

While there is no fee from Think Energy to transfer service to us, your previous provider may charge a fee after the transfer is complete. Additionally, any credits owed from a previous supplier may also be lost. Think Energy recommends confirming with your current supplier.
